Analysis of Reading Literacy Ability of Elementary School Students

Abstract :This study aims to analyze the literacy skills of elementary school students in Makassar City. To achieve the objectives of this study, a qualitative descriptive method was applied in 3 elementary schools in Makassar City. The sampling technique used the cluster random sampling method. The research data was taken from 3 schools with a total sample of 30 male students and 30 female students. Data collection techniques are carried out through tests. The results showed: (1) there were no students at the beginner level; (2) 15% of students are at the letter level; (3) 2% of students are at the word level; (4) 15% of students are at paragraph level; (5) 68% of students are at story level 1; and (6) there are no students at story level 2. So, it can be concluded that the literacy skills of elementary school students in Makassar City are at four levels
