Empowering Young Writers in Ghana Through Digital Literacy: The Expressive Kids Ghana Platform
Author : Moses Badze
Abstract :This paper examines the transformative impact of digital literacy on empowering young writers in Ghana through the Expressive Kids Ghana platform (expressivekidsghana.com/publish). Grounded in the integration of digital literacy as a core competence within the Ghana Education Service’s Common Core Program, the platform utilizes innovative tools to enhance students’ reading, writing, and creative abilities. Central to the study is an exploration of how features like ExpressChat (expresschat. expressivekidsghana.com) and the culturally tailored AI resource, Ask Sir Bob, facilitate collaboration, peer learning, and access to research materials, creating a vibrant community of young creatives. The paper employs a mixed-methods approach to assess the platform’s effectiveness, combining surveys, user interviews, and performance analyses to evaluate improvements in academic outcomes, digital competence, and creative expression among participants. Case studies of selected young writers demonstrate how the platform nurtures creativity, fosters critical thinking, and builds digital skills essential for a technology-driven future. Preliminary findings indicate that students using the platform report significant gains in writing confidence, communication skills, and digital literacy. The study further highlights the potential of combining education and technology to cultivate a new generation of Ghanaian authors and thought leaders, aiming to engage one million young writers. This paper invites educators, policymakers, and innovators to engage in a dialogue on the integration of digital tools in education, offering evidence-based insights into how digital literacy can transform Ghana’s educational and literary landscape.
