Author : Elizabeth Chinomona

Abstract :Transport system is an important factor in any country’s economy, as it is responsible for movement off all goods and services from point of origin to point of consumption or respective destinations. Sea transportation is the largest yet growing mode of transport from the several modes of transport there is. Sea usage increases all the time. Sea transport is advantageous as it is a direct transport from the sender to the recipient, which is faster, cheaper and easier transportation due to technology, operability and availability. A qualitative approach will further help discover the true inner meanings and new insights into a matter being studied. 15 interviews will be conducted until saturation stage. This approach will assist in answering research questions on the use of the transport in South Africa. Atlas Ti software will be used to analyse the data using thematic analysis. An application will be submitted to Vaal University of Technology for an ethical clearance before collecting data. This industry plays a significant role in the economy of South Africa; hence it is important for the sea transportation industry to operate at the most efficient level to achieve its mandate of delivering the right quantity, the right quality of products to the right place and at the right time
