Invisible Health Burdens of Mobility: Explainable AI Insights into the Well-Being of Laotian Migrants in Bangkok, Thailand

Abstract : Empirical evidence concerning invisible health inequalities has remained limited, thereby constraining the broader foundation of public health knowledge. The present investigation was conducted to examine the concealed health burdens experienced by Laotian migrants in Bangkok, Thailand. Grounded theory was applied to interpret migrant well-being through thirty online interviews undertaken between December 2024 and May 2025. The qualitative data were analysed in NVivo (version 15), and explainable AI techniques were employed to support coding, categorisation, thematic development, and theoretical emergence. Through grounded theory analysis facilitated by explainable AI, migrant well-being was identified as comprising interrelated physical, mental, psychological, social, economic, and political dimensions. It was concluded that the integration of explainable AI enhanced transparency, fairness, and accountability, thereby strengthening both objective and subjective understandings of migrant wellbeing within host-country contexts
