Enhancing Professional Competency Standards of Thai Language Teachers under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office Bangkok 2

Abstract : The purposes of this research were to: 1) study the conditions and problems of promoting professional competency standards for Thai language teachers under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office Bangkok, Area 2; and 2) develop guidelines for promoting professional competency standards for Thai language teachers under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office Bangkok, Area 2. The research sample consisted of 248 school administrators and Thai language teachers from schools under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office Bangkok, Area 2 in the academic year 2023, obtained through stratified proportional random sampling. The research instruments included a five point rating scale questionnaire, a semi-structured interview form, and a guideline appropriateness assessment form. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The research findings revealed that the overall condition of promoting professional competency standards for Thai language teachers was at a moderate level (x = 3.42, S.D. = 0.61). The highest mean was found in Thai language learning management (x = 3.68), while the lowest was in research for developing Thai language learning (x = 3.14). The most common problems were teachers’ lack of knowledge and skills in classroom research, insufficient budget for continuous professional development, and heavy workloads limiting self-development time
