Case report - gastric schwannoma masquerading as GiST in a corrosive injury poisoning patient
Author : Aditya Basu
Abstract : A 55-year-old female presented with features of gastric outlet obstruction and upper GI bleeding four months following corrosive ingestion. Upper GI Endoscopy showed pyloric ulceration with stenosis and a bleeding lesion in the proximal stomach. CT scan showed an exophytic mass suspected as GIST, along with pyloric wall thickening and features of gastric outlet obstruction. Patient underwent Billroth I gastrectomy along with wedge resection of the proximal tumor and feeding jejunostomy. She had uneventful recovery except for surgical site infection. Histopathology confirmed benign submucosal Schwannoma and pyloric stricture. This case underscores diagnostic and management challenges gastric corrosive injury with coexisting mesenchymal tumour
