Adapting Language Assessment to Digital Environments: Enhancing Validity, Reliability, and Accessibility

Abstract : The shift towards digital platforms for language assessment necessitates a comprehensive understanding of how this transition affects the core metrics of validity, reliability, and accessibility. This paper explores the adaptations necessary to uphold the integrity of language assessments when administered in digital environments. We examine the challenges and opportunities that digital platforms present, such as diverse technological tools, varying digital literacy levels among test takers, and the potential for broader accessibility. The paper proposes methodologies for ensuring that digital language assessments are as robust and equitable as their traditional counterparts. Through a review of recent literature and case studies, the paper highlights innovative practices that enhance the validity and reliability of assessments while improving accessibility for a global audience.
