Antisemitic Narratives in Latvian Literature
Author : Elina Vasiljeva, Ilze Olehnovica
Abstract : The aim of the study is to analyze the specific features of antisemitic narratives in Latvian literature. The methodology is based on a semiotic understanding of the Jewish literary text as a sign-based structure united by a common theme. The extensive corpus of Jewish literature includes the full range of specifically antisemitic narratives, which reflect traditional tendencies of world literature while at the same time undergo transformation depending on the changing historical background. The antisemitic narratives are viewed as a set of lexical units and elements of the artistic world of a literary text. The study examines the transformation of these narratives from the 18th century to 20th century literature.
