Urban design strategies for multimodal routes in core area of Shimla

Abstract : Role of urban design in sustainable mobility is latest frontier in travel research. Urban design is focused on making spaces for people and giving it back to city rather than taking it out. Urban design when placed at the heart of decision-making, it makes design flexible and controlled for sustainable mobility design. This research is an attempt to showcase the urban design perspective by introducing Multimodal transit system in core areas of Shimla. First half of research discusses the potential zones with framing of urban design agenda whereas second half deals with the creation of sustainable multimodal design in city core area on basis of findings urban design agenda. Few guidelines and recommendations based on site are proposed for the stretch for enhancing travel experience.
