Co-Intelligence in Action: Collaborative Curriculum Reform for AI-Integrated Translation and Language Education

Abstract : This presentation repositions artificial intelligence (AI) in language and translation education as a catalyst for collaborative curriculum reform rather than a mere technological add-on. Framed within the discourse on co-intelligence, it conceptualizes learning as a joint human–AI enterprise in which students, teachers, and AI systems co-construct knowledge, strategies, and solutions. Building on the dual frameworks of co-intelligence and AI+, the study explores how AI can be systematically integrated into curricula through collaborative design processes involving educators, students, and institutional stakeholders. Co-intelligence underscores interactive, adaptive, and reciprocal engagement with AI tools, while AI+ highlights the convergence of AI with other emerging technologies to create richer, more holistic learning environments. Drawing on recent developments in generative AI, neural machine translation, and adaptive learning systems, the presentation critically reviews prevailing instructional practices in translator and language education. It argues that many current initiatives remain narrowly focused on efficiency and technological novelty, neglecting higher-order thinking, ethical awareness, and learner agency. In response, a pedagogical framework is proposed for collaborative curriculum redesign that embeds co-intelligence and AI+ across learning outcomes, course structures, teaching activities, and assessment. The framework prioritizes critical digital literacy, intercultural competence, ethical reasoning, and reflective professional identity formation, alongside disciplinary expertise and technical skills. The presentation also addresses key implementation challenges, including risks of overreliance on AI, evolving teacher roles, the need for institutional policy and infrastructure, and student participation in curriculum co-creation. It concludes by outlining implications for research and practice, advocating a human-centered, collaboratively developed approach to AI integration that supports sustainable, responsible preparation of future translation and language professionals.
